This cordless circular saw from Bosch is a worthwhile addition to their well-built line of 18-volt cordless tools. Its 6-1/2-inch blade is perfect for cutting trim and ripping plywood, with a maximum 1-5/8-inch depth of cut at 45 degrees and 2-1/8 inches at 90 degrees. It offers a 50-degree bevel with a positive stop at 45 degrees and a great one-handed tool-free rear depth-of-cut adjustment. There's also a tough steel base plate, a spindle lock for easy blade changes, and an integrated dust collection port. We like the smooth performance the saw's Bosch-built power train delivers, the soft-grip (found on all Bosch cordless tools), and the great line of site that results from this blade-left configuration. This model includes the saw, a one-hour charger, one battery, a rip fence, an 18-tooth carbide blade, and a case. --Brian Trinen

Woodworkers who like the smooth, accurate performance of Bosch's jig saws will appreciate this new cordless model. It offers plenty of power for making curved cuts in a variety of materials, and doesn't skimp on usability features. At its heart is a powerful and smooth-running Bosch-built motor and a durable and lightweight magnesium gear housing. The saw has variable speed from 0 to 2,000 strokes per minute with a 1-inch stroke length, and a maximum capacity of 2-3/4 inches in wood and 5/16 inch in steel. The base bevels 45 degrees and comes with a foot cover to protect finished surfaces. The tool-free blade-changing system is as simple and quick as we've seen, and even ejects used blades with the pull of a lever. There's a soft rubber top-handle grip that can be used in a couple different positions, and the variable-speed trigger has an ambidextrous lock-on switch. With this tool's smooth performance and Bosch-built reliability, we think any one who finds curve cutting and cords a cumbersome combination will appreciate it.

: When it comes to recip saws, Milwaukee is the undisputed king, the "Sawzall" name serving almost as a generic label for all reciprocating saws (to Milwaukee's chagrin, we're sure). The flattery is completely deserved, especially in this case. Cordless convenience couples with Milwaukee's know-how for one of the finest recips on the market. It's incredibly well-balanced, powerful and yet easy to handle. The Power Plus battery offers improved run time over standard batteries, and time is money. We love the steel Quik-Lok blade clamp system, which lets you change out blades in a flash and without any tools. For safety, there's a lock-off trigger speed control that prevents an accidental startup. And like Milwaukee's other Sawzalls, if you're in a tight space, you can flip the blade over for close-quarter cuts. This is definitely the tool for the busy contractor. It may be a little spendy for the home do-it-yourselfer, but it's worth every penny.--Kris Jensen-Van Heste
